Swiss Climate scores

What are the Swiss Climate Scores?

The Swiss Climate Scores developed by the Swiss government and the Swiss financial industry are indicators that show the climate compatibility of investment products and portfolios of Swiss financial institutions. The scores are intended to provide meaningful and comparable information on the current status of financial products and their compatibility with international climate targets (in particular the net zero target by 2050 of the Paris Agreement) and thus increase the transparency of financial investments for institutional and private investors.

What requirements must the Swiss Climate Scores fulfil?

The application of the Swiss Climate Scores is voluntary for financial institutions, but the Swiss Institute of Finance (SIF) envisages their entry into force on 1 January 2025 with a version revised by the Federal Council. In order to ensure reliable transparency and reliability of all financial investments and client portfolios, the Swiss Climate Scores are to be updated regularly, but at least annually, as part of regular reporting at product level.

Using Swiss Climate Scores as an opportunity

Many Swiss asset managers are already using the Swiss Climate Scores to demonstrate the climate-friendliness of their product portfolios; the scores are currently applied to around 450 funds. Used correctly, the Swiss Climate Scores offer the opportunity to provide existing and potential investors with meaningful and comparable information on all climate-friendly funds - and thus to utilise new sales opportunities. After all, increasing transparency, particularly in climate-related issues, is an increasingly important criterion for success in the financial sector.
